Three abstracted figures – dark, light and pink – join hands in a circular mandala, inscribed within a strict geometry of triangles and squares. Along the circle’s rim, symbols of the senses and of the order of the world surround the round dance: eye, ear, yin-yang, heart and leaf. An image of connectedness across all differences.

Background

The word mandala comes from Sanskrit and means circle. In Hinduism and Buddhism, mandalas have served for centuries as ritual diagrams and meditation aids, depicting the cosmos in geometric order. In the twentieth century, the Swiss psychiatrist C. G. Jung interpreted the mandala as a symbol of wholeness and of the self. Within this tradition, the circle is understood as an image of unity that embraces difference.
