Schaufenster von H. Schero: kubistisch fragmentierte Auslage mit Teddybären, Monotypie 1984

Monotype/mixed media · Schaufenster group of works, 1984
Dimensions to be confirmed with the studio.

From the closed group of Schaufenster monotypes of 1984: a cubistically fragmented shop-window display with teddy bears, passers-by and façade – consumption as a stage, the shop window as a critical mirror. Department-store aesthetics translated into painting.

Background

The monotype is a printmaking process that yields only a single full impression: the artist paints or draws directly onto a smooth plate, and the image is transferred to the paper in the printing. Each sheet is thus a unique work between painting and printmaking. Giovanni Benedetto Castiglione is credited with inventing the technique in the 17th century; in the late 19th century Edgar Degas made it well known with more than 300 sheets, valuing its painterly immediacy.
