Background

Mandala is Sanskrit for circle. In Hinduism and Buddhism, the term refers to ritual circular images that present the cosmos in ordered form and, as an aid to meditation, guide the eye from the edge towards the centre. The Swiss psychiatrist C. G. Jung also observed such circular images in the spontaneous drawings of his patients and interpreted the mandala as a symbol of psychic wholeness.
