Fauré von H. Schero: abstrakte Komposition in Graublau und Braun mit gekratzten weißen Linien

Mixed media on board (watercolour/gouache with scratching and incising techniques) · 180 × 140 cm

A dense abstract composition in grey-blue, brown and sepia: layered translucent glazes from which chalice- and leaf-like forms emerge, overlaid with calligraphically scratched webs of white line and fine yellow horizontal bars. The rhythmic, vibrating structure responds to the music of the composer Gabriel Fauré – painting as sound.

Background

Gabriel Fauré (1845-1924) was one of the defining French composers of his generation. He is best known for his Requiem, his piano nocturnes and his songs; from 1905 to 1920 he served as director of the Paris Conservatoire. His music is noted for its restraint and subtle gradations, with fluid harmonic transitions.
